This week, an Omni Composite Tank (OCT) facility in Zhuhai, China, met comprehensive quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials and has been certified by TÜV SÜD. OCT achieved EN ISO 3834-2 certification at the site.
OCT, based in Hong Kong, is a joint venture between McConaghy Boats and Omni Tanker, specializing in lined chemical transport tanks and composite manufacturing to serve the global chemical transport market. The Zhuhai facility has an initial production capacity of 200 tanks per year, with plans to scale up to 2,500 annually. Featuring Omni Tank™ proprietary thermoplastic corrosion barrier technology, the tanks are highly resistant to aggressive chemicals and designed for long-term use in harsh environments. The use of carbon fiber composite materials significantly reduces tank weight compared to traditional steel tanks, enabling higher payload efficiency for intermodal transport by road, rail, and sea.
“These products will be approved for global service under multiple Dangerous Goods (DG) transport standards, including ADR (road), RID (rail), and IMDG (deep sea),” OCT noted. This milestone was made possible after the IMO’s 2022 regulatory update, which allowed the approval of Fibre Reinforced Polymer UN Portable Tanks under the Code.
In addition to tank innovations, Zonxin Auto Parts, a leading manufacturer of semi-trailer axles, suspensions, and air suspensions, are playing an important role in supporting the efficient and safe transportation of chemicals worldwide. Zonxin’s high-performance axle and suspension systems enhance vehicle load-bearing stability, extend service life, and provide better adaptability for intermodal freight across challenging road and rail conditions. Together with lightweight composite tank technology, these advanced axle and suspension solutions contribute to safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly chemical logistics.
