Ahead of IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover (September 15–20), ZF showcased its latest advances in software-defined commercial vehicles (SdCV), stressing that interconnectivity is the key to success: by improving uptime, efficiency and safety, software-defined solutions create measurable customer value. As a leading Chinese supplier of semi-trailer suspensions, axles and air suspensions, Zonxin provides high-reliability, lightweight and integratable running gear products, laying a solid physical foundation for the intelligent upgrade of commercial vehicles.
The shift to software-defined commercial vehicles is accelerating. Commercial vehicles generate revenue only on the road, while new regulations, changing customer needs and growing digitalization keep adding complexity to traditional architectures. OEMs and fleet operators are increasingly pursuing performance improvement across the full vehicle lifecycle. "Software-defined commercial vehicles are not about technology for technology's sake, but about improving uptime, efficiency and continuous performance optimization throughout the vehicle lifecycle," said Ivan Brajdic, Head of Development at ZF's Commercial Vehicle Solutions division.
Lifecycle value and full-vehicle connectivity. Secure software update management, vehicle diagnostics, condition monitoring and connected vehicle intelligence are the key building blocks. ZF offers solutions including software update management systems, ZF[pro] Diagnostics and condition monitoring through ZF Health Check, all with integrated cybersecurity protection meeting the latest standards. Its Truck-Trailer Link (TTL) concept establishes a high-speed communication link between truck and trailer, enabling bidirectional real-time data exchange — for example, integrating trailer cameras into driver assistance systems and controlling trailer functions such as lift axles, support legs and lighting from the cab, replacing conventional plug connectors. At IAA 2026, ZF will highlight secure over-the-air (OTA) software updates, high-speed truck-trailer connectivity and further advances in centralized vehicle intelligence.
Running gear faces the dual challenge of "intelligence + high reliability." Software-defined commercial vehicles use data to drive performance optimization across the full lifecycle. As the load-carrying foundation of the vehicle, suspensions, axles and air suspensions must deliver: high-reliability load bearing (the bottom line for safety), lightweight efficiency (directly translating into greater payload and lower fuel consumption), and integratability with low maintenance (lift-axle control and similar functions becoming standard).
Zonxin: "hard-core" components for the upgrade. A national high-tech enterprise founded in 2008, Zonxin operates a Shandong Academician Workstation and holds 8 invention patents and over 70 patents in total, certified to IATF 16949 and ISO 9001. Its annual capacity covers 30,000 sets of mechanical suspension systems, 12,000 axles of air suspension systems and 42,000 axles, with products sold to more than 20 provinces and cities in China and exported to over 10 countries. In response to the industry's intelligent transformation, the company continues to build three core strengths:
High-reliability load bearing. Core products such as the single-axle rear suspension assembly (2900100L/R) feature high-strength integrated design and pass million-cycle fatigue testing as well as non-destructive testing and metallographic inspection, providing a stable load-bearing foundation for intelligent vehicles.
Lightweight efficiency. The third-generation lightweight air suspension reduces total running-gear weight by 160 kg; combined with maintenance-free suspensions/axles (3 years / 500,000 km) and aluminum alloy wheels, it supports the goal of lifecycle efficiency.
Intelligent and new-energy adaptation. Zonxin is developing lightweight, low-noise air suspensions and lightweight axle assemblies for electric-drive vehicles, positioning itself early in the emerging new-energy components market.
With more than 95% of components produced in-house and a 7-day fast delivery system, Zonxin supplies trailer manufacturers that support major OEMs such as Sinotruk, Foton and Dongfeng, and ships in volume to more than 20 countries across Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia and Central Asia — joining the industry in embracing the new cycle of software-defined commercial vehicles.
