Global freight rates are rising sharply as geopolitical tensions, shipping rerouting and limited transport capacity continue to disrupt international supply chains.
According to Global Trailer, container spot rates on major east-west routes have climbed significantly as carriers reroute vessels away from the Red Sea and adjust schedules amid growing risks around the Strait of Hormuz.
Drewry data shows that global container freight rates have reached their highest level since the pandemic peak. The Red Sea disruption alone has removed an estimated 10–15% of global container capacity, while vessels taking longer routes around the Cape of Good Hope face higher operating costs and longer transit times.
The impact is also spreading to inland transportation. Changes in vessel schedules and increased port congestion are putting additional pressure on trucking and intermodal logistics, potentially increasing transport costs and equipment demand.
For trailer operators and fleet owners, higher freight rates may support stronger transport demand, but rising fuel, maintenance and equipment costs remain key challenges.
For trailer manufacturers and component suppliers, the market highlights the growing importance of reliability, lightweight design, operating efficiency and supply-chain resilience.
As global logistics continues to adapt to geopolitical uncertainty, efficient and durable trailer equipment will remain essential to maintaining reliable and cost-effective freight transportation.
