Ⅳ. Common Fault Analysis and Troubleshooting for Disc Axles

Fault Symptom

Possible Cause

Corrective Action

No Braking or Poor Braking Effect

Brake pads are worn out.

Clearance between brake pads and brake disc is incorrect.

Brake disc surface condition is poor.

Brake chamber air pressure is insufficient.

Drain plug of the brake chamber is not removed, causing blockage.

Replace with new brake pads.

Reset clearance and perform functional inspection.

Replace brake disc.

Refer to tractor manufacturer's air pressure requirements.

Remove the downward-facing drain plugs on both brake chambers.

Brake Deviation (Pulling to One Side)

Brake pads on one side are excessively worn.

Brake pads cannot move freely.

Clearance between brake pad and disc is incorrect.

Brake discs were not replaced in pairs on the same axle.

Air pressure in brake chambers is not equal on both sides.

Brake chamber models are not the same on both sides.

Only one brake chamber drain plug is removed.

Replace with new brake pads.

Remove and clean brake pads and caliper.

Reset clearance and perform functional inspection.

Replace both brake discs on the same axle simultaneously.

Refer to tractor manufacturer's air pressure requirements.

Replace both brake chambers with the same model on the same axle.

Remove both downward-facing drain plugs on both sides.

Abnormal Brake Pad Wear

Vehicle is operated under long-term heavy load or poor road conditions.

Continuous braking causing excessive pad temperature.

Brake disc is cracked.

Operate according to rated load.

Use braking properly according to regulations.

Replace brake disc.

Brake Disc Cracking

Long-term heavy load or poor road conditions.

Continuous braking resulting in thermal cracks.

Brake disc is cooled rapidly with water at high temperature.

Tractor is not equipped with a retarder.

Operate according to rated load.

Use brake properly.

Water cooling of brake disc is strictly prohibited.

Install retarder on tractor as required.

Brake Drag (Brakes Not Fully Releasing)

Brake chamber push rod returns normally when brake is released.

Insufficient air pressure to fully compress parking brake spring.

Clearance between brake pad and disc is incorrect.

Brake pad cannot move freely.

Caliper sliding function is abnormal.

Hub bearing clearance is incorrect.

Pressure regulator or brake force distribution is abnormal.

Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s manual.

Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s manual.

Reset clearance and perform functional inspection.

Remove and clean brake pads and caliper.

Replace guide pins, bushings, and protective boots.

Readjust bearing clearance.

Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s manual.

Excessive Hub Temperature

Tractor is not equipped with a hydraulic retarder.

Brake system between tractor and trailer is not properly matched.

Install hydraulic retarder on tractor.

Match tractor and trailer braking systems, or replace with 1:1 soft braking valve.
