China’s export activity is accelerating ahead of the upcoming National Day Golden Week, putting increasing pressure on ports, container availability and inland transportation networks.
According to Global Trailer, major container gateways including Ningbo-Zhoushan, Qingdao and Yantian are experiencing significant congestion as manufacturers bring forward shipments before the October holiday period. Official data from China’s Ministry of Transport showed that outbound container throughput increased in late August, with Ningbo-Zhoushan recording a week-on-week increase of more than 8%.
The export surge is being driven by several factors, including manufacturers moving cargo forward before the holiday, continued demand from European and North American markets, and vessel schedule disruptions associated with rerouting around the Cape of Good Hope.
Port congestion is also affecting inland transportation. Yard utilisation at several terminals has exceeded 85%, while truck turn-around times at Yantian International Container Terminal have reportedly increased by up to four hours during peak periods.
At the same time, container equipment is becoming increasingly difficult to secure. Demand for 40-foot dry containers has reportedly exceeded supply in some coastal regions, with exporters facing delays of two to five days in obtaining equipment. Shipping lines have also introduced early peak-season surcharges on some Asia-Europe and trans-Pacific services.
Impact on the Trailer and Commercial Vehicle Industry
For trailer manufacturers, component suppliers and international logistics operators, the impact extends beyond ocean freight.
As export cargo is concentrated into a shorter period, inland logistics networks may face bunched arrivals, tighter delivery windows and increased trailer repositioning requirements. Delays at ports can also create temporary shortages of transport capacity, increasing pressure on trucking schedules and warehouse operations.
For companies exporting semi-trailers, axles, suspensions and other commercial vehicle components from China, early production planning and logistics coordination will therefore become increasingly important ahead of Golden Week.
The 2026 National Day Golden Week begins on October 1, following the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in late September. The relatively compressed working window before the holiday could further concentrate manufacturing, container booking and cargo delivery activity.
Opportunities for China’s Trailer Supply Chain
Despite the short-term logistics pressure, the export surge also reflects continued international demand for Chinese-manufactured products.
For China’s trailer and commercial vehicle component industry, this creates opportunities to further expand overseas markets while improving supply-chain resilience. Manufacturers can reduce logistics risks through earlier production scheduling, advance container bookings, diversified shipping routes and closer coordination with freight forwarders.
As a professional manufacturer of semi-trailer suspension systems, axles and related components, Zonxin Auto Parts continues to focus on stable production capacity, quality control and international supply-chain support to serve customers in overseas markets.
As global freight flows become increasingly complex, reliable components, flexible production and predictable delivery will remain important competitive advantages for trailer manufacturers and fleet operators worldwide.
