The global freight and logistics sector is undergoing a disruptive transformation. The long-standing modal shift paradigm—centered on transferring freight from road to rail and inland waterways—is being fundamentally challenged by the rapid advancement and large-scale deployment of zero-emission truck technologies. At a critical stage in the global transition toward carbon neutrality, zero-emission trucks are significantly reducing the environmental externalities of road freight. This is narrowing, and in some cases eliminating, the environmental gap with other transport modes. Leveraging core technological innovations and product implementation, Shandong Zonxin Automotive Parts Co., Ltd. has emerged as a key Chinese player in this global green transition, providing essential support for the commercialization and performance enhancement of zero-emission trucks.
Commissioned by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Transport & Mobility Leuven (TML) conducted the first comprehensive reassessment of global freight modal shift policies in the context of decarbonization. The study shows that the rapid global deployment of battery electric trucks and hydrogen fuel cell trucks is fundamentally reshaping the technological landscape of the logistics industry. Across numerous global transport routes, these zero-emission road freight solutions have significantly reduced carbon emissions and environmental external costs, continuously narrowing the sustainability gap with non-road transport modes such as rail. Meanwhile, the competitiveness of rail and inland waterway transport remains constrained by structural factors such as capacity supply, cross-border coordination, and terminal infrastructure limitations, making it difficult to achieve rapid adaptation and large-scale coverage on a global scale.
Amid this global transition toward greener freight, Shandong Zonxin is providing robust support for the efficiency enhancement and commercialization of zero-emission trucks through technological innovation in core components, positioning itself as a representative Chinese enterprise contributing to global logistics decarbonization. Through dual optimization of materials and structural design, Zonxin’s products achieve weight reduction while maintaining load-bearing capacity and durability. This enables electric semi-trailer trucks to deliver three key benefits: extended driving range, reduced operating costs, and increased payload capacity. Under the same battery capacity, range is significantly improved, effectively alleviating range anxiety; energy consumption costs are further reduced, amplifying the economic advantages of zero-emission trucks; and reduced vehicle weight increases effective payload, enhancing per-trip revenue and achieving both cost reduction and revenue growth.
Against the broader backdrop of global freight decarbonization, the development of zero-emission trucks is not only redefining modal choice logic but also driving collaborative innovation across the entire industry chain. Shandong Zonxin’s practices demonstrate that Chinese enterprises, through breakthroughs in commercial vehicle lightweighting and core component R&D, can actively participate in the technological transformation of the global logistics industry and contribute Chinese solutions to achieving global carbon neutrality goals. Looking ahead, as zero-emission truck technologies continue to evolve and global freight policies are further optimized, coordinated development between road and rail transport will become the mainstream. Chinese enterprises represented by Shandong Zonxin will continue to drive innovation and inject sustained momentum into building a greener, more efficient, and sustainable global freight system.
